Welcome to Some Good Cuppa

A few words about us

Hello there

WE ARE CURRENTLY CLOSED UNTIL MARCH.

‘Some good’ is a favourite way in Orkney, of describing something that is really quite excellent. And this is always our wish for you, that you will love your cuppa and the treat that you choose, and enjoy your time with us, whether it’s only once or as a regular customer.

You will find our trailer, Bonnie, at the Sea Cadets’ carpark, Scapa overlooking the beautiful Scapa Beach, within walking distance or a few minutes drive from Kirkwall town.  We are on the St Magnus Way pilgrimage route and a popular beach for weather watchers, sea swimmers, families and dog walkers.

Our small family business serves specialty coffee, tea and hot chocolate, along with fresh bakes made in our home kitchen and savoury snacks, all to take away.  Be sure to try our signature carrot cake!

As a ‘Small and Local’ member of Orkney Food & Drink, we are surrounded by excellent food and drink providers and love the opportunity to use locally sourced ingredients in our cooking and baking.

Our takeaway cups from Decent Packaging are home compostable and recyclable to minimise landfill waste but we will be delighted to fill your own travel cup at a discount.

Scapa beach is a popular place to stop by, for locals and visitors all year round. Despite the occasional bad weather day, we are open for most of the year between March and the first week in January. See below for our updated opening hours.

We look forward to meeting you at the beach, see you soon!

Our Decaf Coffee

Honduras Decaf

From Vandyke Brothers, our decaffeinated coffee is from Honduras. It is a Swiss Water decaffeinated coffee that does not use chemicals often associated with other decaffeination processes.

Flavour notes: Sweet, fruity and full bodied.

Served as an espresso coffee by Some Good Cuppa but suitable for all brew methods.

Our House Coffee

Tin Roof

From Vandyke Brothers, a medium roast blend of South and Central America and African specialty coffee.

Flavour notes:  Milk chocolate, caramel and almond.

Served as an espresso coffee (particularly delicious as a flat white) by Some Good Cuppa but suitable for all brew methods.

Tea Champion

Royal Pu-erh

China. By Scottish Tea House.

A beautiful addition to our autumn/winter menu, this aged royal Pu-erh was grown and harvested in Yunnan province China, during 2001 and aged for more than 20 years. The high mountain tea gardens grow trees rather than shrubs, some of them several hundred years old.

The roots of the old tea trees draw up the valuable nutrients from the forest ecosystem, and the tea made from these trees is highly sought after for their complex layers of flavours.

Aging this organic dark tea produces unique characteristics and a smoothness that is otherwise impossible, resulting in a bold, intense earthy flavour with undertones of dark fruit and vanilla notes. Pu-erh tea ages like a fine wine.

A looseleaf, brewed in a teapot for 4 minutes by Some Good Cuppa.
